Questions

Can a Mac play Windows games?

Not by itself. Windows games need Windows and usually a graphics card a MacBook does not have. Walter runs the game on a gaming PC and sends the picture to your Mac, so the game never has to run on it.

What about CrossOver or the Game Porting Toolkit?

Both translate Windows games so they run on macOS. Some games work well. Others break after an update, and shooters with anti-cheat are the ones that break most.

Do I need Boot Camp or Parallels?

No. Boot Camp only exists on Intel Macs. Parallels runs Windows for Arm on Apple silicon, and many shooters with anti-cheat refuse to start inside it. Walter needs a browser and a Steam account.

Is it free?

The three games are free on Steam, and playing them on Walter is free during the early alpha.

Which Mac do I need?

Any Mac with a current browser, Intel or Apple silicon. The game runs on Walter’s machine, so an Air plays it the same as a Pro. Your connection counts for more.

Can I always play right away?

Not always. Walter is in early alpha and there are only so many machines. On a busy evening they can all be taken, and then you wait or come back later. Distance matters too: the coverage page on walter.gg shows where the machines are.
