Questions

Can a Chromebook play PC games?

Not by itself. ChromeOS cannot install Windows games, and most Chromebooks have no graphics card for them. Walter runs the game on a gaming PC and streams the picture to Chrome, so the game never has to run on your Chromebook.

What happened to Steam for Chromebook?

It was a beta that ran some Linux games on a few high-end Chromebooks. Google ended it on 1 January 2026. Streaming is the route that is left.

Do I need Linux mode or developer mode?

No. Walter runs in Chrome. Open walter.gg and press play.

Which Chromebook do I need?

Any Chromebook with a current version of Chrome. The game runs on Walter’s machine, so a basic Chromebook plays it the same as a gaming one. Your connection counts for more.

Is it free?

The three games are free on Steam, and playing them on Walter is free during the early alpha.

Can I always play right away?

Not always. Walter is in early alpha and there are only so many machines. On a busy evening they can all be taken, and then you wait or come back later.
