The picture never arrived
What the screen says
The picture never arrived
Walter sends video the way a video call does. Some networks block that kind of traffic, and when they do the machine runs perfectly while nothing reaches your screen.
Work through these in order. The second one tells you whose network is at fault.
4 things to try
- Select Go again on the error screen.
- Watch the four phases. If the picture arrives, nothing else here applies.
- If W4-01 comes back a second time, stop and go to the next section.
Two minutes of work, and it settles whether the problem is your network or ours.
- On your phone, turn the personal hotspot on. iPhone: Settings, then Personal Hotspot. Android: Settings, then Network and internet, then Hotspot and tethering.
- Connect the laptop or tablet you were playing on to that hotspot. Turn its normal wifi off, do not just add the hotspot.
- Open walter.gg, go to Browse, and press play on the same title.
- If the picture arrives over the hotspot, your usual network is blocking Walter. Go to the next section.
- If W4-01 comes back over the hotspot too, skip to Tell us.
Office networks, school networks, hotels and some public wifi block the traffic Walter needs.
- Turn off any VPN and try once more, including one running on the router rather than the device.
- On a work or school network, ask whoever runs it to allow outbound UDP. It is the same traffic Teams and Zoom need, which is an easier thing to ask for than it sounds.
- On your own network, unplug the router, wait 30 seconds, plug it back in, and give it 2 minutes before you press play.
- If you have a strict firewall or a family filter on the router, turn it off for one attempt to see whether it is the cause.
- Select No, tell us on this page.
- Include W4-01, the title, and the time to the nearest ten minutes.
- Say whether the phone hotspot worked. Without that line we cannot tell your network apart from ours.
Worth knowing The machine was running the whole time. Nothing was charged.
