How playing on Walter works
Pick a game, drop your email, and press play. Here is what happens between the click and the game.
Playing on Walter takes three steps, and Walter handles the hard ones.
From click to game
1. Pick a game. A curated set of popular games, preinstalled and ready on Walter's rigs. Counter-Strike 2 is live, with more Steam titles on the way. 2. Drop your email. One field, once. Next time Walter recognises you and you skip straight to the game. 3. Press play. Walter spins up a gaming rig for you and pixelstreams the game to your screen in seconds.
What actually happens when you press play
Somewhere close to you, a real gaming rig wakes up with the game already installed. It runs the game at full quality, encodes every frame, and streams the picture to your browser while your clicks and keystrokes travel back the other way. That round trip is the whole trick. Keep it short enough and the game feels local.
Your device only has to show the picture and send the inputs. That is why a phone, an old laptop and the TV all work the same way. The rig does the sweating.
Your accounts, your progress
Where a game needs it, you sign in to your own account inside the stream. Steam titles use your own Steam login, straight into Valve's interface, and your progress syncs through Steam Cloud the same way it does on any PC. Play a few rounds on Walter today, pick it up on a friend's PC tomorrow. Same account, same saves.
What it costs
While the alpha runs, playing on Walter is free. We are tuning the network with real players on real connections, and honest feedback after a session is worth more to us right now than a subscription fee. When that changes, we will say so plainly before it does.
